Chuck Ladd, Engineer and Architect
As SEM’s designer of record, Chuck is responsible for supervising and approving the design of solar hot water and solar photovoltaic systems. He is also a project manager with our commercial building performance team, based in our Morrisville headquarters. An ASHRAE-certified Building Energy Assessment Professional, Chuck focuses on the air barrier testing process, covering all of its stages from the initial design review to post-construction testing and analysis.
Pursuing his passion for buildings, Chuck earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and a Master in Architecture at NC State before working at several private architectural firms. He became acquainted with SEM while designing a project for a client who wanted to incorporate solar power. Before long, Chuck developed his own interest in the field and joined us shortly thereafter. Today, he enjoys focusing on the energy assessment of buildings and sharing his knowledge with fellow architects.
Chuck remains busy even in his off time. As a professor of the practice at NC State’s School of Architecture, he provides students with a valuable “on the ground” perspective. He also serves as a building sector advisor for the North Carolina Community College System’s curriculum improvement program, making sure that vocational training programs stay up-to-date in this rapidly changing field. Although he enjoys building model trains and cycling, Chuck’s biggest claim to fame is his successful performance on Jeopardy!, where he won his debut game.
